Large bait presence
There’s a lot more bait around PR. Find diving birds and you will most likely find Tarpon, jacks, bar jacks, barracuda and possibly snook. As always, you’ll get a better shot at catching a tarpon during sunrise. You can find feeding frenzies during the day but you gotta be in the right spot at the right time. Make sure your hooks are durable and you’ve got at least 50lb bite tippet. you don’t want to loose that one fish you had a shot at. Cheers!
Weather’s warming up
Warmer overnight temperatures are getting tarpon fired up. We’re finding more players whereas in the winter, you really had to convince them to eat. Still challenging of course, but more players for sure. Winds this time of year make it harder to fly fish and navigate on small watercraft typically after 12pm. The morning is the time to get out. Tarpon and bait tend to be shallower, low winds, low light. Black and purple flies early/late, white/chartreuse midday. Get after it!
